| | What is your country's national traditional sport | | My country's OINA.
It was first time mentioned during the rule of Vlaicu Vodă in 1364, when it was spread all across Wallachia and it used to be a game of the shepherds. There are two teams, one "at bat" ("la bătaie") and one "at catching" ("la prindere").The game begins with the team "at bat", with one of the players throwing the ball while another player of the same team has to hit it with a wooden bat ("bâtă") and send it as far as he can towards the adversary field. After that, the player has to run on the "culoarele de ducere şi întoarcere" that are to be found in the adversary field before the adversary receives the ball from his co-players.Comparison with baseball * Same weight of the ball: around 140 grams for both * Longer and slimmer bat for Oina * A game takes only 30 minutes for Oina * Oina teams have 11 players; Baseball teams have 9 players

| | Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar..... Family | | If you watch the discovery channel or the discovery health channel at all, then you will be completely familiar with the Duggar Family. On August 2, 2007 Michelle Duggar gave birth to her 17th child. Yes you read right, 17 children. The Duggars have gone through an estimated 90,000 diapers, and Michelle has been pregnant for 126 months — or 10.5 years — of her life. And They say they are not finished yet. Can you imagine? Now you might ask Why? Why would a couple at 39 years of age continue to pop out a child a year nearly for the last 2 decades...Jim Bob who is an aspiring republican senator says "We both just love children and we consider each a blessing from the Lord. I have asked Michelle if she wants more and she said yes, if the Lord wants to give us some she will accept them." So what are your thoughts about this kind of hysterical mass producing of baseball teams? Is Jim Bob and Michelle really inspired saints, on a mission of God to fulfill the biblical command to go forth and multiply, or are they mad hatters who are in need of birth control and psychiatric care? | |

| | I bet you thought they only existed in movies . . . | | Today kicks off the National Hobo Convention in Britt, Iowa.I remember seeing them in the movies and tv shows when I was a kid. So I was curious and this is what I read, I found this very fascinating:What a hobo looks like: To begin with, there is no real way to visually tell who a hobo is, there are no specific uniforms, or style of dress. No secret hand signs, or greetings, no membership cards, and contrary to most police attitudes, no organized gangs. This Idea come from an attitude called "Pass The Buck", where a police officer cannot figure out a conclusion to a crime, so the police officer finds a Hobo to blame. And where a Hobo is concerned, migratory in activities, and habits, they are still predictable to return to places and areas they deem comfortable with a frequency. With only a past history of employment, they return to areas they are used to, the police know this and so, with that predictability, they haunt areas that Hobos frequent. Looking for someone who fits the description of the criminal suspect the police cannot otherwise find. The Hobo, having no community ties in the town, has no physical proof of his travels, and past places of residence, and... | |

| | My Grandson's Baseball Game | | Last evening my wife and I drove a total of 80 miles to see our grandson play baseball. When we arrived at the ball diamond the only team there was my grandson's. They were practicing and waiting for the oponents to arrive. After about 30 minutes and the other team didn't show up, the game was called and our team won by forfeit.I spent 20 years coaching and managing Khoury league baseball teams and never once did we forfeit a game. It seems that it isn't important to some parents that their child show up when the temperature rises (it was 95 degrees yesterday) but what is this teaching the child? There were a lot of games rained out this Spring and they have to be made up. My grandson was to play last night, he has a game Friday, a double header (2 games) on Saturday and a game on Sunday. Next week his team starts tournament play. They are scheduled in 3 different tournaments. He loves baseball and is a pretty good player, so he'll show up. I find that a lot of young children play on teams and the only reason they are there is to please their parents. Most of them have NO baseball skills and don't want to be there. The team managers have to play them regardless. Are your... | |
| | The Astros. Miguel Tejada and Steroids | | In recent years, the Houston Astros established a reputation as a good old boy baseball team, free from the taints of controversy that had encumbered other baseball teams and other sports. In 2006, the Astros played for the World Series against the Chicago White Sox, who featured a very explosive, Hispanic manager in Ozzie Gullen and a racially diverse team. When the White Sox swept the Astros 4-0 questions began to simmer about the Astros. People began calling them, the old boy network team, others called them a racist organization to have an all white team in 2006. But others pointed to the fact that with players with squeaky clean reputations like Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell, they steered clear of the steroids taint that had saddled many other teams. They said in the long run the image of old boy respect was worth more. The reputation of a racist organization was unfair. The Astros, in their history were known for some of the best minority players in the game. The (Toy Cannon) Jimmy Wynn, pitcher J. R. Richard, Cesar Cedono, Joe Morgan, and current baseball executive Bob Watson all coarsed through the franchise. But there were reports that the welcome they got was not... | |
