| | When is a person really "Famous"? | | I don't think "famous" is just about being well known. After living in 11 US States, 4 countries and being active in online communities for 8 years, it could be said that I'm known "worldwide"... but I'm far from famous.I can think of professionals who are well-known within their circles, but aside from their little subculture, they are all but non existant. So what is the difference between "well known" and "famous".To me it's when you have broken out of your little circle. When even those who aren't into what you do know who you are.I doubt I've ever purposely listened to more than one rap song... but I know who Eminem, Tupac and Run DMC are. I am not a sports fan, but I can recognize Tiger Woods, Michael Jordon and Nolan Ryan's faces. I don't watch Soap Operas, but can tell you that Susan Lucci starred in one for decades. To me, that's fame. | |

| | | Best concert you've ever been to | | Okay, so I admit I'm old enough that I actually attended the Live Aid concert in pHilly in 1985. It was the best concert ever! There were tons of performers like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Madonna, Run DMC, Neil Young,Black Sabbath, Santana, Crosby Still Nash & Young, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton plus a buch of 80's bands liek Teh Power Station, Duran Duran, and Simple Minds. It was all day long, plenty of partying and we were YOUING! I'll never forget it! So what was the best concert you've ever been to? | |
| | music is rocking??? | | Strong female rock stars aren't as prevalent as they were in the 1980s.The 1980s was a big decade for music. It kicked off with people being fed up with disco and ended after giving birth to hip hop, new wave, pop metal, alternative rock, synth pop, thrash metal, house music and MTV.And while much of the spotlight was taken by male-centric bands who dressed like girls, female artists made gigantic contributions to popular music during the decade. For this playlist I wanted to focus on some of the most influential female musicians to make a mark in the 1980's.So you won't find Michael Jackson, Poison or Run DMC, but you will find 40 artists whose contributions are critically important -and every one is a female solo artist or a band with a female member. Please add and any female artists I missed to the comments. | |
