| | | What do you do for Christmas in your part of the world? | | I am from Sri Lanka and the festive mood is now on. The shops are full, even the sidewalks (pavement as we call it) are fool of goodies. People have already taken their annual leave, and the country virtually comes to a standstill with the workforce on a holiday mood.We will celebrate at home, and all the relatives meet to wine and dine and party. The tables will be full of goodies, mostly western, like yule logs, christmas cakes with our traditional Sri Lakans food like Kewun, Kokis added.Of course and the spirits, the local stuff and the imported Rum, Whiskey etc. will also be there. This is a Buddist country but all nationalites join in the festive mood and enjoy. We will also never miss midnight mass on Christmas day.Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year. | |
| | Am I Too Old To Meet A Man? | | Here in Japan, people say that women are like Christmas cakes - no good after the 25th! My grandparents have been giving me a lot of pressure to get married (or at least find a boyfriend!) recently. I don't think that I'm ready to get married - I'm only 23! - but there's a lot of pressure on me! What should I do? Do you think I should try and get married as soon as possible? I don't want men to think I'm too old!!kumiko

| | In A Couple Of Days, Halloween Will All Be Over.... | | ... and we'll all be planning for our Christmas Festivities, coupled with Thanksgiving if you're in the U.S.A.I'm about to bake my Christmas Cake, so that it has a little time to mature before I marzipan and ice it. I always make my own Christmas Cakes, and love doing it. I don't like peel in my fruit cakes but plenty of Glace Cherries and Nuts!!! lol.I'll also be making a few special Christmas Cards for the family and close friends and neighbours. I enjoy craft working as well.:) I've made lots of decorations, some for the tree, some free-standing, and occasionally, I've made my own Christmas Crackers.
Gifts will have to be purchased and wrapped in time to put under the tree, which I normally put up a week before, after the ceiling decorations. All my holiday food is on order, so that's one more thing out of the way. Then hopefully, I will be finished for Christmas Eve, when I will be cooking something special for the family, after which I will unwind with a couple of drinks with friends at the local pub.On Christmas day, my Mum and immediate family will be joining me at my son's home for the day. We have dinner first, and then hand around and open our gifts. By... | |

| | Christmas is coming...do you commemorate it or not? | | I looked at the calender today and realized that it is just over three weeks and then Christmas will be here. After chatting with so many people from around the world I wondered how many of you will be celebrating Christmas this year. If you do not celebrate Christmas is there some other day of significance for you in your faith or belief system that you'd care to share? My hubby and I are not sure what we are going to be doing this year because we are still creating new traditions since my parents are no longer with us. One thing we know for sure that we will be doing is pausing to reflect on the past year and express heartfelt appreciation for the big improvement my hub's health. For us it is a spiritual time of year and we like to head back to our old home town and spend time with close friends. Our town has a caroling evening and we are going to attend that. There is something wonderful about joining others in a rousing chorus of Christmas carols. Cards will be sent out, gifts wrapped and meals shared. So that is some of what we'll be doing and I would be most interested in hearing what you are doing if you do celebrate Christmas...or if you do not how you feel about those... | |
